I changed my device. Can I get a new license?
You bought Avalw Shield, activated your license, and now something happened: you reinstalled Windows, your Mac broke down, you upgraded to a new laptop, or your company replaced your work device. Your license was already activated. What now?
Short answer: yes, you can get a new license for free.
Avalw Shield is a lifetime license. We understand that devices break, operating systems need to be reinstalled, and people upgrade their hardware. You can request a replacement license at no extra cost.
Why licenses activate only once
Each Avalw Shield license is tied to the device it's activated on. This is by design. Shield runs entirely offline with no servers involved, so the activation binds the license to your specific hardware. This is what makes Shield secure: no cloud, no remote access, no data leaving your computer.
The downside is that when your device changes, the old activation no longer applies. A reinstalled OS, a replaced hard drive, or a completely new machine means the license needs to be reissued.
How to request a replacement license
Send an email to business@avalw.ai with the following information:
This information serves as basic verification that you are the original buyer. We will review your request and issue a new license to the same account, usually within 24 hours.
Replacement policy
- Your first replacement can be requested no earlier than 1 month after your original activation date.
- After that, each subsequent replacement can be requested once every 2 years from the date of your last replacement.
- There is no limit to how many times you can request a replacement over the lifetime of your license. Each new request simply starts a new 2-year period.
- The replacement license works exactly like the original: same features, lifetime validity, one-time activation.
Why we do this
Technology changes. People buy new laptops, companies refresh their hardware every few years, sometimes a device simply breaks. We designed Shield as a lifetime product because we believe you shouldn't have to pay again for something you already own.
The 2-year cooldown between replacement requests exists to prevent abuse, not to limit you. In practice, most people change devices every 3 to 5 years, so this policy covers normal use without any issues.
Common scenarios
I reinstalled macOS / Windows. Yes, you need a new license. The activation is tied to the previous installation. Send us an email and we'll issue a replacement.
My laptop broke and I bought a new one. Same process. Email us with your account details and we'll send a new license for your new device.
My company replaced my work device. This works the same way. If your company manages multiple licenses, the account administrator can contact us directly.
I already used my replacement and need another one. If 2 years have passed since your last replacement request, you can request another one. If not, contact us anyway and explain your situation. We review edge cases individually.
Important
Make sure to send the email from the same address you used to create your Shield account, or at least include it in the message. This helps us verify your identity quickly and process your request faster.
