Free trial: what you get and how it works
Avalw Shield has a free trial. No credit card, no account required, no strings attached. You download the app, open it, and everything works. Here's what you get and why 30 minutes is enough to know if Shield is right for you.
What the trial includes
The free trial gives you access to every feature in Shield. Nothing is locked, nothing is limited, nothing is watermarked. You get the full product:
- Away Lock your screen locks automatically when you step away and unlocks when you return
- Shoulder Guard your screen blurs when someone else looks at it
- Face enrollment register your face so Shield recognizes you
- All settings lock delay, blur intensity, grace period, everything is configurable
- Security Capture optional photo capture when unauthorized access is detected
The only limitation is time. The trial gives you 30 minutes of full protection. After that, you need a license to continue using Shield.
Full features, no limits except time
30 minutes of full protection. No account needed. No credit card. Every feature available.
What to test in your first session
30 minutes is more than enough to test everything that matters. Here's what we recommend:
Minutes 1-5: Face enrollment. Open Shield, follow the enrollment process. It takes less than a minute. Shield learns your face using a few angles. This is stored locally on your device and never leaves your computer.
Minutes 5-10: Away Lock. Stand up and walk away from your computer. Watch how quickly the screen locks. Come back and sit down. Watch how it unlocks without you touching anything. Try different distances. Try turning your head away. Get a feel for how sensitive the detection is.
Minutes 10-15: Shoulder Guard. Ask someone to stand behind you or next to you and look at your screen. Watch the screen blur instantly when they look, and clear when they look away. If you're alone, try positioning yourself at an angle to simulate a second viewer.
Minutes 15-25: Settings. Open the settings and adjust them. Change the lock delay. Change the blur intensity. Set a grace period. Try different configurations to find what works for your environment. An open office is different from a home office, which is different from a coffee shop.
Minutes 25-30: Real use. Just work normally. Do what you usually do. Let Shield run in the background and see if it gets in the way. It shouldn't. The best test is forgetting it's there.
Why 30 minutes is enough
Shield is not a complex tool that takes days to evaluate. It does two things: locks your screen when you leave, and blurs your screen when someone else looks. Within 30 minutes, you will know:
- Whether the face detection works reliably with your camera and lighting
- Whether the lock speed is fast enough for your needs
- Whether Shoulder Guard detects additional viewers accurately
- Whether the app runs comfortably in the background without affecting performance
- Whether it fits into your workflow without getting in the way
If all of that works in 30 minutes, it will work the same way in 30 days and 30 months. Shield doesn't change behavior over time. There are no server-side updates, no algorithm changes, no features that degrade. What you see in the trial is exactly what you get with a license.
No account, no credit card
Some products call it a "free trial" but require your credit card upfront and charge you if you forget to cancel. Shield doesn't do that.
- You don't need to create an account to try Shield
- You don't need to enter a credit card
- You don't need to provide an email address
- Nothing happens when the session ends. Shield simply stops. No pop-ups, no pressure, no "your trial is expiring" emails
If you decide to buy, you create an account on shield.avalw.ai, purchase a license, and activate it in the app. If you decide not to buy, you close the app and that's it. Nothing to cancel, nothing to unsubscribe from.
Where to download
- Mac Mac App Store
- Windows Microsoft Store
Download, open, and start your first 30-minute session. No setup required.
After the trial
If Shield works for you, a lifetime license costs $199. One payment, no subscription, no renewals. The license is valid forever on the device you activate it on. If you change devices later, you can request a free replacement.
30 minutes is designed to give you enough time to test every feature and decide if Shield fits your workflow.
Our recommendation
Try Shield in the environment where you actually work. If you're in an open office, test it there. If you work from coffee shops, bring your laptop to one and test there. The lighting, the angles, and the distances are different everywhere, and the best way to know if Shield works for your setup is to test it in your setup.
